"Winter Storm Warning" ...Winter Storm Warning in effect from 3 am to 6 PM EST Monday... The National Weather Service in Upton has issued a Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow...which is in effect from 3 am to 6 PM EST Monday. * Locations...Suffolk County. * Hazard types...heavy snow and wind. * Accumulations...snow accumulation of 4 to 8 inches. * Winds...northeast 15 to 25 mph with 30 to 35 mph gusts. * Temperatures...in the lower 30s. * Visibilities...one quarter to one half mile at times. * Timing...snow develops late tonight...and then the heaviest snow will fall from the Monday morning commute through Monday afternoon. * Impacts...the combination of strong winds and a heavy wet snow will bring down tree limbs and power lines. Hazardous travel conditions are expected due to greatly reduced visibilities and significant snow accumulations. Blowing and drifting of snow with near blizzard conditions are expected due to strong winds. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an emergency. If you must travel...keep an extra flashlight...food... and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. , "Coastal Flood Advisory" ...Coastal Flood Advisory in effect from 10 am to 1 PM EST Monday... ...Coastal Flood Advisory in effect from 10 PM Monday to 1 am EST Tuesday... The National Weather Service in Upton has issued a coastal Flood Advisory...which is in effect from 10 am to 1 PM EST Monday. A coastal Flood Advisory has also been issued from 10 PM Monday to 1 am EST Tuesday. * Locations...coastal locations along the North Shore of Nassau and northwestern Suffolk. * Tidal departures...2 to 2 1/2 feet above astronomical tides. * Timing...minor coastal flooding expected for Monday morning and night high tide cycles. * Coastal flood impacts...flooding of the most vulnerable shore roads and/or properties due to height of storm tide or wave splashover. Majority of roads remain passable. There is no significant threat to life and any impact on property is minimal. Precautionary/preparedness actions...
