Five People Arrested at Sobriety Checkpoint in Centereach

Suffolk County Police have arrested five people and seized one vehicle during an overnight sobriety checkpoint in Centereach.

Centereach, NY - December 28th, 2013 - Suffolk County Police have arrested five people and seized one vehicle during an overnight sobriety checkpoint in Centereach.
 
Suffolk County Highway Patrol and Sixth Precinct officers, assisted by Suffolk County Parks Police, and Metropolitan Transportation Authority police officers, conducted a sobriety checkpoint on Route 25 in Centereach from 11:10 p.m. – 3 a.m. 
 
This operation was conducted for the prevention of injuries and fatalities associated with driving while under the influence of alcohol and drugs. A total of 728 vehicles went through the checkpoint.
 
The following were charged with Driving While Intoxicated:
  • Nelson Galvez, 42, of 376 Hawkins Rd., Centereach
  • Gary Greene, 54, of 5 Harness Ct., Yaphank
  • Stephanie Dermody-McGonigle, 22, of 12 Lakeside Trail, Ridge
The following person was charged with Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs:
  • Christine Derenzo, 21, of 3684 Mallard Rd. Levittown
The following person was charged with Driving While Ability Impaired by Alcohol:
  • ·        Lauren Ibsen, 24, of 73 Saddle Rock Rd., E. Setauket
The above individuals are scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on December 28.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
