Man Arrested for DWI After Crash, Passenger Seriously Injured

Mastic Beach, NY - December 25, 2013 - Suffolk County Police today arrested a man for driving while intoxicated after his passenger was seriously injured when his vehicle struck a pole in Mastic Beach this morning.

Ransom Soper was driving a 1999 Ford Mustang southbound on Mastic Road when the vehicle struck a pole at the intersection of Robinwood Drive at 7:45 a.m.
 
A passenger in the Ford was airlifted by Suffolk County Police Helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was listed in serious condition. Soper, 22, of Bieselin Road, Bellport, was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue, where he was treated and released.
 
Vehicular Crime Unit detectives charged Soper with Driving While Intoxicated. He will be held overnight at the Seventh Precinct and is scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on December 25.
