Two Men Arrested for Two Separate Robberies of Female Shoppers

Suffolk County Police have arrested a pair of men who robbed female shoppers in Patchogue and Shirley this week.

Patchogue, NY - December 21st, 2013 - Suffolk County Police have arrested a pair of men who robbed female shoppers in Patchogue and Shirley this week.
 
At the King Kullen Shopping Center, located at 405 William Floyd Parkway, Shirley, on December 16, at approximately 7:50 p.m. a 24-year-old female was accosted and robbed of her pocketbook by a man with a handgun. The suspect and another man fled in a light-colored SUV.
 
At the parking lot in the Pathmark Shopping Center located at 399 Route 112, Patchogue, on December 18 at approximately 11:30 p.m., another female was accosted and had her pocketbook stolen by a man with a handgun, who also fled with another man in a light-colored SUV. Fifth Precinct detectives were able to obtain a description of the suspect’s vehicle from a store surveillance camera. The vehicle description was broadcast to police units county-wide.
 
On December 19, at approximately 9:56 p.m., 5th Precinct Officer Brian Moore was on routine patrol when he observed two men in a silver 1999 Mercedes Benz ML320 acting suspiciously in a parking lot on Montauk Highway in East Patchogue. The vehicle fit the description from the video. Officer Moore attempted to stop the vehicle and the men fled. Officer Moore along with other 5th Precinct units pursued the subjects to Lexington Road in Shirley, where they were arrested at approximately 10:06 p.m.
 
An investigation by 5th and 7th Squad detectives revealed the two men were responsible for both robberies.
 
Robert Cummings, 18, of 191 Lexington Ave., Shirley, was charged with two counts of Robbery 1st Degree, Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs and numerous traffic violations. Javon Brown, 22, 808 Scherger Ave., E. Patchogue, was charged with two counts of Robbery 1st Degree.
 
Both are scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on December 21.
 
The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information to contact the 5th Squad at 631-854-8552.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
