This year's Annual Gala by the Darby Foundation is themed “Tribute to Service and Success.”

Uniondale, New York - December 10, 2015 - On Wednesday, December 23, 2015 the Darby Foundation will be hosting its Annual Gala at the Long Island Marriott 101 James Doolittle Boulevard, Uniondale, New York 11553. This year’s gala theme is appropriately themed a “Tribute to Service and Success”.  The honorees include Phil Andrews, President, Long Island African American Chamber of Commerce, Inc. /Past President 100 Black Men of Long Island, Inc., Lisa Eason, Darby Foundation and Jackie Turner, Assistant Dean of Students; Nassau Community College The gala will also be celebrating the achievements of its Founder/CEO Chris Arceneaux marking two decades of providing exceptional service to the community.

About Honorees: Phil Andrews, CEO P.A. Public Relations Co. /President of Long Island African American Chamber of Commerce, Inc. Phil Andrews is the current President of the Long Island African American Chamber of Commerce, Inc. and the Past President of the 100 Black Men of Long Island, founded in  1974.  In 1995 and 1998, Mr. Andrews' excellence in his field garnered the Small Business Person of the Year award by two branches of the Nassau Council of Chambers of Commerce (Roosevelt and West Indian Chambers, respectively). He has also received a number of proclamations and citations from notable political officials including former Nassau County Executive Thomas S. Gullotta, former Town of Hempstead Supervisor Richard Guardino and Assembly-woman Earlene Hooper Hill, 18th Assembly District of Long Island NY.  In 2012, Phil Andrews was honored by the Korean American Association of Greater New York with the “Good Neighbor Award.  Mr. Andrews was also inducted as one of the Kings of Queens Honorees in 2014.

Jacquene Turner - Assistant Dean of Students; Nassau Community College - Jackie Turner is currently a Professor at Nassau Community College on Long Island, New York. For over nineteen years she has been and is currently teaching in the Communications Department.  She is also Assistant Dean of Judicial Affairs.  As a Dean Ms. Turner’s Interpersonal Communication skills are a plus.  Her experience in academia and as an independent producer has equipped her with an outstanding ability to connect the student to both worlds.  Ms. Turner’s Communication Skills include Interpersonal Communications, Public Speaking, T.V. Studio Production, Video Field Production and Communications in Black America. Her experience as an independent producer provides her with excellent skills in documentary film production.

About: Lisa Eason -Lisa is a licensed New York State Cosmetologist. Her passion for the beauty industry has allotted her the opportunity to provide Hair Artistry for Clothing Designer Pronovias Bareclona, Clothing Designer Gingie McLeod of www.SaintChic.com, director Dawud Gaston, and other entertainment industry professionals. Her work is currently showcased on EHow.com.  With her heart and desire for the social and emotional development of youth and adults in underprivileged areas, Lisa serves as the Board Secretary for The Darby Foundation, a 501(c) 3 community based organization focused on building sustainable communities. She also serves as a volunteer Administrative Support Specialist and Events Assistant for The Cedarmore Corporation. She also works on the Advisory Board for The Cedarmore Corporations’ Youth Empowerment Series: Girlz Talk and Boyz N2 Men sponsored by Hofstra University, the Nassau County District Attorney, and the Girl Scouts of Nassau County. The Cedarmore Corporation is a 501(c)3 community based organization

Darby Foundation Events

End of the Year Celebration Gala at Long Island Marriott Drawing pulled by GM Michael Chase on Wed. Dec 23rd 2015 (8pm to 12pm)

The Networking Reception will commence at 5:00pm and the Awards Ceremony will begin at approximately 7:00pm. Please join us while we mix with esteemed colleagues, media, and members of the community in an evening of delicious hors d’oeuvres, pleasurable music, fashion and much more. This event compliments the Darby Foundation Youth Coalition fundraising initiative.

MISSION: The mission of the Darby Foundation is to positively impact the lives of children and young adults while supporting the sustainability of non-profit organizations that serve youth throughout the State of New York.

YOUTH COALITION: The Youth Coalition, a program under the Darby Foundation, is a group of 501(c) 3 community based organizations dedicated to pooling their time, energies and resources for the purpose of closing the gap in funding for youth programs. 

COALITION OBJECTIVES:  

  • To award Scholarships to youth
  • Host Back to School Drives & School Supplies Drives
  • Operate a Youth Leadership Summer Camp
  • After-School Youth Mentorship Program
  • To integrate Special Needs Youth in all programming
