William Floyd Inducts 8th Class of Athletic Hall of Fame

In collaboration with the William Floyd Alumni Association, the William Floyd School District recently inducted its eighth class of standout athletes into the William Floyd Athletic Hall of Fame.

Mastic Beach, NY - December 8th, 2014 - In collaboration with the William Floyd Alumni Association, the William Floyd School District recently inducted its eighth class of standout athletes into the William Floyd Athletic Hall of Fame before a crowd of more than 100 people including several fellow Hall of Fame athletes from previous induction classes. Attendees were treated to a fully-catered lunch by the William Floyd High School Culinary Arts program, led by teacher Rich Daly. After the ceremony, honorees were introduced before the crowd during the Colonial Tip-Off Championship game featuring William Floyd versus Rocky Point.

Class of 2014 inductees include members of the 1972 cross country team –  the first to bring a state championship to William Floyd – head coach Frank LaBianca and team members Art Anderson, Dave Greco, Ron Temperino, Charles Keller, Marty Hansen, Fred Blumenauer and Dan Rudek; former varsity wrestling coach Dan Nolan; Martin Johnson (posthumously), commissioner of the Mastic Sports Soccer Club and five individual athletes: Paul Casciano (1970), baseball; George Mondi (1982), soccer; Matt Miller (2002), football/lacrosse; Joe Johnson (2008), football; and Nicole Capella (2009), softball.

The William Floyd Athletic Hall of Fame has inducted 53 individual athletes, five coaches, three honorary recipients, one community recipient and eight championship teams, including the 1962 baseball team, the 1969 boys cross country team, the 1972 boys cross country team, the 1987 bowling team, the 1991 softball team, the 1994 boys basketball team, the 2001 football team and the 2002 wrestling team.
