Uniondale, NY - December 8, 2014 - The New York Islanders and the American Red Cross want you to give the gift that means something this holiday season by donating blood. Join the Islanders and the Red Cross for a blood drive at Nassau Coliseum on Saturday, December 20 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. As a special thank you, all presenting donors will receive a voucher for two tickets to an Islanders home game during the 2014-15 regular season, a chance to win autographed Islanders memorabilia and more!

Blood donations often decrease this time of year when donors get busy with holiday festivities and travel. Severe winter weather and seasonal illnesses, like the flu, can also have a serious impact on blood donations, but the need for blood remains steady. On average, the Red Cross must collect 15,000 blood products every day for patients across the country.

“The Red Cross encourages Islanders fans to come out and donate blood this holiday season,” said Kay Schwartz, Chief Executive Officer, American Red Cross Blood Services New York-Penn Region. “Blood can only come from generous volunteer donors. Eligible donors are encouraged to make an appointment now and help us serve patients in need.”

“We’re urging our fans to give with meaning this holiday season and give back to our Long Island community through blood donation,” said Mike Bossy, Islanders VP of Corporate Partnership and Partnership Marketing. “The team is proud to join in such a great cause by rewarding donors with a voucher for Islanders tickets. You never know when someone you love may be the one in need and Red Cross blood drives help ensure blood is available for patients wherever and whenever it is needed.”

The Red Cross blood drive will take place in the Lower Box Office of the Coliseum. Walk-ins are welcome, but donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment in advance by downloading  the Red Cross Blood Donor App, calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or by visiting the website.

*Offers and items are non-transferable and are not redeemable for cash. Ticket vouchers are for select games only. (Please visit this website for available games. Redeemable at the Coliseum Box Office ONLY. Tickets subject to availability.)
