Man Arrested After Pedestrian Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash in Brentwood

Suffolk County Police arrested a man today after a hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian in Brentwood last night.

Brentwood, NY - December 8th, 2013 - Suffolk County Police arrested a man today after a hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian in Brentwood last night.
 
Santos Amaya was walking across Islip Avenue when he was struck by a 2007 Toyota Corolla driven by Fredy Pavon at 10 p.m. Amaya, 31, of Central Islip, was transported via Brentwood Legion Ambulance to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore where he was pronounced dead. Pavon left the scene of the crash and was arrested a few hours later after his damaged vehicle was located.
 
Vehicular Crime Unit detectives charged Pavon, 47, of Brentwood, with Leaving the Scene of an Incident Without Reporting Involving A Fatality. He will be arraigned today at First District Court in Central Islip.
 
The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact the Vehicular Crime Unit at 631-852-6555 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
