Man Arrested for Sexually Assaulting Taxi Driver in Mount Sinai

Suffolk County Police have arrested an undomiciled man after he sexually assaulted a taxi driver during his trip last night.

Francis Barrios was arrested after he sexually assaulting a taxi driver during his trip from Port Jefferson.

Mount Sinai, NY - December 2, 2015 - Suffolk County Police have arrested an undomiciled man after he sexually assaulted a taxi driver during his trip last night.

A female taxi driver picked up a male passenger at John T. Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson when during the trip, the man, Francis Barrios, assaulted her. During the assault, the taxi crashed into a fence on Mount Sinai-Coram Road in Mount Sinai at approximately 7:40 p.m. Following the crash, Barrios sexually assaulted the driver.

Police initially responded to the crash after a passing motorist called 911 and after further investigation arrested Barrios. Barrios, 34, was charged with Criminal Sexual Act 1st Degree, Attempted Rape 1st Degree, Strangulation 2nd Degree and Assault 3rd Degree. Barrios is a registered sex offender. He was held overnight at the Sixth Precinct for arraignment today.

The name of the cab company is not being released to protect the victim’s identity.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
