Freeport Man Arrested for Mugging Cabbie in Roosevelt

Roosevelt, NY - December 1st, 2014 - The First Squad reports the arrest of a Freeport man for a Robbery that occurred on Monday, December 01, 2014 at 2:29 am in Roosevelt.

According to detectives, the defendant Brian Ortega, 24, of Smith Street a driver for Taxi America Cab picked up a 29 year old male victim while in front of Mi Casita restaurant located at 30 Church Street. The victim requested a ride to his Harts Avenue residence when the defendant Ortega suddenly took the victim to another location located in the vicinity of Henry Street / Nassau Road and demanded cash. Brian Ortega then forcibly removed a wallet that contained an undetermined amount of US currency and a cell phone.

The victim scared ran from the cab and called police. First Precinct Police later located the defendant at the Taxi America Cab located at 146 South Main Street and placed Brian Ortega into police custody without incident. There were no injuries reported. Ortega will be charged with Robbery 3rd Degree. He will be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Monday, December 01, 2014.
