Shirley, NY - November 23, 2015 - William Floyd Elementary School is making a difference for local families this holiday season by donating $575 to Colonial Youth & Family Services for their Thanksgiving food drive. The project, “Thanks-4-Giving,” was spearheaded by the Student Council under co-advisors Jeanne Stern, School Social Worker, and Donna Haakonson, fourth-grade teacher.

To raise the money, students and their families had the opportunity to purchase small paper turkeys to be placed throughout the building. Students were able to purchase a turkey for a donation of .25 cents, their families contributed $2 and staff contributed $5 for each paper turkey.

“We developed ‘Thanks-4-Giving’ as a way for students to experience the true spirit of generosity during the Thanksgiving holiday season,” said Dr. Keith Fasciana, Principal, William Floyd Elementary School. “I am very proud that our students and their families embraced this program enabling us to raise $575 which will go a long way toward helping our neighbors.”
