Pedestrian Killed in Port Jefferson Station Crash

Suffolk County Police Sixth Squad detectives are investigating a crash that killed a pedestrian in Port Jefferson Station Monday night.

Port Jefferson Station, NY - November 19, 2014 - Suffolk County Police Sixth Squad detectives are investigating a crash that killed a pedestrian in Port Jefferson Station last night.

Paul Kearins was attempting to cross Route 25A, while pushing a shopping cart, at the intersection of Dayton Avenue when the shopping cart was struck by a 2009 Chrysler PT Cruiser that was traveling southbound on Route 25A. The shopping then cart struck Kearins at 6:35 p.m.

Kearins, 48, of Port Jefferson, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Chrysler, Dadang Koswara, 60, of Port Jefferson, was not injured.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who may have information to contact the Sixth Squad at 631-854-8652.
