On Nov. 26 State Education Commissioner Dr. John King will continue his series of Common Core Curriculum discussion forums on Long Island at Eastport/South Manor High School from 6 to 8 p.m.
In order to ensure that each of the over 30 individual school districts in the First Senatorial District have a voice at the meeting, York State Senator Ken LaValle forwarded a letter to school superintendents asking them to meet with parents, students, teachers, PTAs and other stakeholders to develop questions and comments pertaining to Common Core Curriculum, assessments, APPR, and student privacy.
Superintendents are being asked to return the questions and comments with the name of the person who will be speaking and his/her affiliation, i.e. parent, student, teacher, administrator by Thursday, Nov. 21.
Questions and comments, which must be kept to two minutes, will be reviewed in advance and preselected to eliminate duplication. The organizers of the event will choose just one question from each district based on submittals. Chosen speakers will be notified ahead of time and a seat will be reserved for each of them at the discussion forum.
LaValle noted that the auditorium holds 1,000 people and seating will be on a first come, first serve basis but that additional seating will be available in an overflow room where interested parties can watch via closed circuit television. The event will also be live streamed.

Stakeholders and interested parties must submit questions and comments to their individual school districts for submission to LaValle’s office on Thursday, Nov. 21.
