Long Island, NY - November 16, 2015 - On Veterans Day 2015, General Needs and Rotary District 7255 volunteers delivered over 300 pairs of winter waterproof boots to homeless veterans from Long Island City to Riverhead.  Local manufacturers, retailers and individual volunteers combined resources to make this one day multisite distribution possible.

“Without the support of TD Bank and the Ronkonkoma and Huntington Rotary Clubs, as well as the Rotary District 7255 (Long Island) none of this would have happened”, said General Needs President Lonnie Sherman.

The “Boots Across Long Island” event has given General Needs the ability to distribute approximately 300 pairs of winter boots to needy homeless Veterans on Long Island this Veterans Day. The veteran’s organizations that General Needs supported by providing boots to their residents were: the Borden Avenue Veterans Residence in Long Island City, Long Island Cares, Family Service League in Huntington, Suffolk County Long Island Veterans at the Salvation Army Annex on the campus of the Northport VA, Beacon Houses across Long Island and several other veterans in need.

“Great things have happened to General Needs and we’d like to thank all who helped: TD Bank, Rotary Clubs of Long Island (District 7255) and Rothco. Awareness of the work we do here on Long Island for our homeless Veterans is finally getting the focus and resources it desperately needs”, said Sherman.
