Roosevelt, NY - November 15, 2016 - The Roosevelt School District’s Roosevelt Middle School recently celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month by hosting a school-wide celebration, “Cultural Hispanic Night.” The evening enabled all students to come together in solidarity and celebrate their unique heritages. Hundreds of students came together to see their peers perform and taste traditional Hispanic food prepared my Roosevelt Middle School teachers. Performances included a dance showcase of “Stand by Me,” directed by Ms. Portillo; student-speakers presenting on why we celebrate Hispanic heritage; a video entitled “What do Latinos Look Like?” poetry readings of poetry from great Hispanic thinkers and band and guitar performances by students.
