It looks like tonight into tomorrow night Long Island will be getting its first snow of the season! According to the National Weather Service, the temperature will be in the 30s tonight and between the hours of 2 a.m. and 7 a.m. Long Islanders can expect rain showers mixed with snow showers resulting in some minor snow accumulations. Some areas on the Island may not even see any snow.

For the locations on the Island that do accrue snow fall tonight the total nighttime snow accumulation could end up being less than a half inch of snow and mainly on natural surfaces like grassy areas and trees. If the cold air rushes in faster tonight though, or if the precipitation comes down harder, we could potentially see 1 to 2 inches of snow.

Friday morning’s temperature will be in the 30s so we could have some icy spots along with wet roads. For your own safety, and for the safety of those around you, please practice caution while driving on the roadways tonight and tomorrow morning.

Additionally in effect right now, from 6 a.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday, is a small craft advisory for both the North and South Shore waters, due to high winds and rising sea levels. Small operating vessels and inexperienced mariners should avoid navigating in these conditions.

Before you get ready to hit the road, be sure to visit LongIsland.com's Traffic Camera Center, where you can view local road conditions in real time.
