Suspect Nabbed for String of Nassau County Burglaries

Garden City, NY - November 12th, 2014 - Garden City detectives report the details of an arrest for multiple burglaries that occurred in Garden City and throughout Nassau County in the months of October and November 2014.

According to detectives, on Friday, 10/07/14 at 3:25 P.M., William Hepworth, 48, (address unknown) entered St. Anne’s Church located at 35 Dartmouth St., Garden City, pried open four poor boxes and removed an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing the scene.  Further investigation by Garden City detectives, Nassau County’s Second, Third, Fourth, and Seventh Squad detectives along with Malverne Village detectives, found the defendant committed an additional twelve burglaries within the confines of those precincts, where he entered various churches removing cash and a P.A. system.

Garden City detectives located the defendant in a parking lot at 1330 Hicksville Rd. in Massapequa on Tuesday, 11/11/14 at 5:35 P.M., where he was placed under arrest.  At the time of his arrest the defendant was found to be in possession of cutting pliers, a pry bar and screwdriver.

Hepworth is being charged with thirteen counts of Burglary 3rd Degree, Possession of Burglar Tools and will be arraigned on Wednesday, 11/12/14 in First District Court, Hempstead.
