The Sperry Rail Car is a bright yellow train fitted with ultrasonic and induction test equipment and is designed to detect internal rail defects not readily visible to the eye. Defects that are found will be corrected immediately by a crew of LIRR track maintenance workers. The Sperry Rail Car is used twice a year to inspect 500 miles of LIRR track.

On Wednesday, November 12, buses will replace trains between Huntington and Port Jefferson from 9:56 a.m. to 3:34 p.m. On Thursday, November 13, buses will replace trains between Huntington and Port Jefferson from 9:56 a.m. until 2:37 p.m.

Westbound
Customers traveling west from stations Port Jefferson through Greenlawn will board buses at their station up to 17 minutes later than normal for travel to Hicksville where train service will resume to points west. Customers should anticipate up to 35 minutes additional travel time depending upon their destination. Local bus service will be provided between Port Jefferson and Syosset.

Eastbound
Customers traveling east to stations Greenlawn through Port Jefferson will change at Huntington for bus service to points east. Customers should anticipate up to 26 minutes of additional travel time.
