Butterflies BBI, Founder Erna Blackman

Queens, NY - October 25, 2015 - Star of Queens: Erna Blackman, founder of nonprofit Butterflies BBI featured in Queens Courier and Qns.com. Blackman has seen the devastating effects of low self-esteem in underserved communities during her 20-year career in law enforcement.  She has also volunteered at the American Cancer Society as a stylist in their wig program and was inspired by the smiles she would bring to the faces of her clients as she assisted them while they dealt with their personal illnesses. This inspiration was the motivation to bring her services to children in need, hoping to raise their self-esteem to help them become successful members of society.

Butterflies BBI was founded in March 2012 by Madame EJ Blackman with the help of Co-Founder, Kaiya Blackman.  The organization was established to address the needs of children suffering from hair loss due to medical conditions and treatments. One of our main interests is in inner-city children because they are often a group that has been greatly overlooked due to the special needs of their hair.  We believe that our clients' needs are of the utmost importance and our entire team is committed to meeting those needs.  As a result, after application approval, each client will receive individualized customer service and attention because we understand that no two children are exactly alike.  And, we provide every client with complete confidentiality.  Our goal is to help restore normalcy in addition to promoting a sense of well-being to our clients while they deal with their personal illnesses and conditions.  We know that raising the self-esteem of our disadvantaged youth now, can help to brighten their futures later and we'd like to be given the chance to help lighten their load and Make a Difference.

While receiving services at Butterflies BBI, our clients are given the opportunity to elect to enroll in our Pink Butterflies program which offers self-esteem workshops and nutritional seminars. We'd like to do all that we can to promote a healthy lifestyle because at Butterflies BBI, we truly care about the well-being of our clients and enjoy assisting with this part of their journey.
