Selden, NY - October 22, 2013 - Legislator Tom Muratore (R-Ronkonkoma) wants to remind homeowners of some important information. If you currently receive a Basic STAR exemption for your school property taxes, you are required to re-register with the New York State Department of Taxation of Finance to continue receiving your exemption in 2014 and subsequent years.

“Re-registration is active now until the December 31st deadline,” stated Legislator Muratore. “You can easily apply online or by phone, but PLEASE do not delay.”

Senior Citizens
Senior citizens receiving Enhanced STAR benefits are not affected by the new registration requirement, which applies to Basic STAR benefits only.

Seniors must, however, take steps to ensure that they continue receiving Enhanced STAR.

Seniors receiving Enhanced STAR who reside outside of New York City must continue to:
• apply annually, or
• participate in the Income Verification Program
