Brentwood, NY - October 22, 2015 - Suffolk County Police will be honoring First Precinct Explorer Squad Sergeant Sampson Hung at a ceremony on October 23 at the Suffolk County Police Academy in Brentwood as he is recognized with a career achievement award.

Hung, 19, of Wheatley Heights, is the second Suffolk County explorer in more than 20 years to receive the prestigious Career Achievement Award in the field of law enforcement and he has been involved in the Explorers Program since he was 14. The Explorers Program is a life, career and leadership development program that provides 14 to 20 year olds with insight into the skills and techniques needed to succeed in life and as a police officer.

To receive the award, Hung, who has held leadership positions including Treasury Sergeant and Squad Sergeant, had to complete more than five hundred hours of training and service to earn the following proficiency awards:

  • Law Enforcement Award (60 hours of training)
  • Community Service (100 hours of service)
  • Crime Prevention (50 hours of service)
  • Emergency Preparedness
  • Tenure Award
  • Perfect Attendance
  • Drug Abuse Prevention (60 hours of training and service)
  • Explorer of The Year
  • Physical Fitness Award
