The National Weather Service in New York has issued a Winter Storm Warning for snow...sleet and freezing rain...which is in effect from 7 PM this evening to 6 PM EST Monday. * Locations...the New York City and New Jersey metropolitan areas...northern Nassau and northwest Suffolk counties...and southeastern coastal Connecticut. * Hazard types...snow...sleet and freezing rain. * Accumulations...snow accumulation of 4 to 8 inches...along with around one quarter of an inch of ice. * Winds...northeast 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 25 mph. * Temperatures...in the upper 20s. * Visibilities...one quarter mile or less at times. * Timing...tonight through Monday. * Impacts...hazardous travel due to reduced visibilities and significant snow...sleet and ice accumulations. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an emergency. Suffolk County Police To Hold Property Auction

The Suffolk County Police Department Property Section will hold a property auction on October 23 at 8:30 a.m. at the Property Section building, located next ...

Yaphank, NY - October 21st, 2013 - The Suffolk County Police Department Property Section will hold a property auction on October 23 at 8:30 a.m. at the Property Section building, located next to Police Headquarters, 30 Yaphank Ave., Yaphank.

Among the items being auctioned are hand and power tools, automotive items, household items, gun scopes and cases, clothing, jewelry/watches, flat screen televisions, bicycles, iPods and electronics. Motor vehicles and motorcycles will not be sold at this auction.

The event will be held rain or shine and all items will be sold in “as is” condition. All purchases are subject to New York State sales tax and payments must be made in cash.

There will be a preview of select items on October 22 between 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
