Great Neck, NY - October 15, 2014 - MTA Long Island Rail Road announced today that work on west end of the westbound platform, at Great Neck Station (also known as Platform A) is nearing completion and the platform will fully reopen to customers on Monday, October 20 at 12:01 AM.

The platform work, part of an overall spruce up of the station, was accomplished in two phases so that the entire platform was never out of service at one time. The rehabilitation of the platform’s east end was completed last year. The elevator on the west side of the station, which had been closed since July, will once again be accessible on Oct. 20.

The west end closure required the installation of a temporary stairway just west of the station building and a temporary platform extension so that the regular customer flow could be accommodated.

“We know that the rehabilitation project at Great Neck Station created some inconveniences for customers and we have appreciated their comments and patience as we
worked to meet their daily needs,” said LIRR President Patrick Nowakowski. “Our goal was to get this project done as quickly as possible without impacting train service and we were able to accomplish that with the public’s help.”
