Buses Replace Trains for Sperry Rail Testing Along Sections of the Montauk Branch Monday, Oct. 19 through Thursday, Oct. 22 during Off-Peak Periods

Buses will replace trains along sections of the Montauk Branch during off-peak periods beginning Monday, October 19 through Thursday, October 22 while track inspections are performed using a specialized diagnostic car developed by Sperry Rail.

Long Island, NY - October 14, 2015 - Buses will replace trains along sections of the Montauk Branch during off-peak periods beginning Monday, October 19 through Thursday, October 22 while track inspections are performed using a specialized diagnostic car developed by Sperry Rail.

The Sperry Rail Car is a bright yellow train fitted with ultrasonic and induction test equipment and is designed to detect internal rail defects not readily visible to the eye. Defects that are found will be corrected immediately by a crew of LIRR track maintenance workers.

Monday, October 19 – Babylon to Patchogue
Sperry Rail Car testing will be conducted in the area between Babylon and Patchogue beginning at 9:16 a.m. and ending at 12 noon.

Eastbound
Customers traveling to stations Bay Shore through Speonk will get off the train at Babylon and board buses to their final destinations. Customers should expect up to 23 minutes of additional travel time depending upon their destination.

Westbound
Customers boarding at stations Patchogue through Bay Shore will board buses to Babylon where train service will resume. Customers will board buses up to 36 minutes later and travel time will increase by up to 27 minutes.

Tuesday, October 20 – Patchogue to Montauk
Sperry Rail Car testing will be conducted in the area between Patchogue and Montauk beginning at 8:01 a.m. and 5:41 p.m.

Eastbound
Customers traveling to stations Bellport through Montauk will get off their train at Patchogue and board buses to their final destinations. Customers should expect up to 41 minutes additional travel time depend on their destination.

Westbound
Customers boarding at stations Montauk through Bellport will board buses to Patchogue where train service will resume. Customers will board buses up to 1 hour and 5 minutes later and will experience up to 32 minutes of additional travel time depending upon destination.

Wednesday, October 21 – Speonk to Montauk
Sperry Rail Car testing will be conducted in the area between Patchogue and Montauk beginning at 6:49 a.m. until and 6:18 p.m.

Eastbound
Customers traveling to stations Westhampton through Montauk will get off their train at Speonk and board buses to their final destinations. Customers will experience up to 28 minutes of additional travel time.

Westbound
Customers boarding at stations Montauk through Westhampton will board buses to Speonk or Patchogue where train service will resume. Customers will board buses up to an hour and 16 minutes later than usual and travel time will increase by up to 27 minutes.

Thursday, October 22 – Bay Shore to Patchogue
Sperry Rail Car testing will be conducted in the area between Bay Shore and Patchogue and beginning at 9:16 a.m. until 12 noon.

Eastbound
Customers traveling to stations Bay Shore through Patchogue will get off their train at Babylon and board buses to their final destinations. Customers should expect up to 23 minutes additional travel time depend on their destination.

Westbound
Customers boarding at stations Patchogue through Bay Shore through will board buses to Babylon where train service will resume. Customers will board buses up to 12 minutes later than normal and wil will experience up to 33 minutes of additional travel time depending upon destination.
