Glen Cove, NY - October 14th, 2013 - As part of its efforts to build stronger ties to the many diverse communities on Long Island, on October 10 the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County (HMTC) held its regular Board of Directors meeting at the Islamic Center of Long Island (ICLI) in Westbury, NY.

The ICLI has been a partner of HMTC to promote tolerance and to speak out against prejudice and acts of hate.  At the meeting, HMTC Chairman Steven Markowitz praised the partnership and suggested ways the two institutions could further enhance the partnership.  “We are so grateful for the hospitality of ICLI and having our Board meet the leadership of the Muslim community is of great benefit to us all.  We look forward to hosting a meeting of the ICLI Board at the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center in the near future,” said Markowitz.

Islamic Center of Long Island President, Eric Hamza Byas, led the group on a tour of Long Island’s oldest mosque and discussed the Center’s future plans to host an interfaith institute that offers seminars for various religious groups.  The HMTC Board then held a regular meeting to discuss HMTC business.
