Long Island, NY - October 10, 2016 - Assembly candidate Dean Hart today called for money earmarked for improvements at Penn Station to be used instead to cushion the bare metal obstacles that injure passengers in accidents on the Long Island Railroad, the busiest commuter railroad in the nation.

“The weekend derailment injured more than twenty and last month’s New Jersey Transit accident killed one and injured more than 100,” Assembly candidate Hart said. “Many of the injuries result form passenger thrown and hitting ridged bare metal obstacles inside the cars. We see broken bones and bad bruises and potential deaths. One obvious remedy is to cushion metal surfaces the way we did auto dashboards 30-years ago.”

"It's about time we bring our infrastructure into the 21st Century," said Hart.
