Local Artist, Mario Tucci, has been named "Artist in Residence" at the Hempstead House in the Guggenheim Estate

Sands Point, NY - October 10th, 2013 - Local Artist, Mario Tucci, has been named "Artist in Residence" at the Hempstead House in the Guggenheim Estate, Sands Point, by the Friends of the Sands Point Preserve.

For his first duty as "Artist in Residence" Mr. Tucci will be creating an oil painting of a figure model at a charity fundraiser Masquerade Ball at Hempstead House on Fri., Nov. 1, at 7:00 p.m.  For the rest of Nov. Mr. Tucci will be painting at various venues around the Guggenheim Estate where the “Titans of Business & the Best of Design” – a world class design show house at historic Hempstead House from Nov. 2 through Nov. 24 (closed on Tuesdays).

Mr. Tucci plans to create a painting of David Guggenheim, who lived in the Hempstead House from 1917 to 1942 when it was donated to The Institute of Aeronautical Sciences, from old B/W photos.  He will also create an oil of the Hempstead House in it's past glory when it was the ultimate Gold Coast estate, the famed “East Egg” of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s “The Great Gatsby”.  Both paintings will be donated to the Friends of the Sands Point Preserve for use at the Hempstead House.
