Brooklyn Woman Arrested for Using Fake Traveler's Checks in Freeport Marshalls

The Major Case Bureau, Crimes Against Property Squad detectives report the arrest of a Brooklyn woman on October 7, 2014 for an incident that occurred at 2:00 pm in Freeport.

Freeport, NY - October 8th, 2014 - The Major Case Bureau, Crimes Against Property Squad detectives report the arrest of a Brooklyn woman on October 7, 2014 for an incident that occurred at 2:00 pm in Freeport.

According to detectives, while in Marshalls, 256 E. Sunrise Highway, Shirlena Cooper, 21, of Fulton Street, attempted to use numerous fraudulent American Express Travelers Cheques to make purchases from the store. Upon being question about the checks by a store employee, Cooper grabbed the checks back from the cashier an attempted to leave the store. The incident was witnessed by an off duty Hempstead Police Department officer who detained her until Freeport Police arrived. Cooper was then placed under arrest without incident.

Cooper, who is charged with four (4) counts of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument 2nd Degree, will be arraigned in First District Court, Hempstead on 10/08/2014.
