Long Island, NY - October 7th, 2014 - The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Tim Bishop for re-election to Congress (NY-1). During his six terms in the U.S. House of Representatives, Congressman Bishop has proven himself an environmental leader who fights for policies to combat climate change, protect our clean air and water, and promote renewable energy.

“Congressman Tim Bishop is a long-time environmental champion who hasn’t shied away from tackling the challenge of our generation—climate change,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski. “Congressman Bishop stands with the people of our nation and New York alike, fighting for the clean energy, water, and air that will protect our health and wellbeing.”

“Long Island can trust Representative Tim Bishop to protect the land, beaches and ocean that make our region great,” said Marcia Bystryn, President of the New York League of Conservation Voters. “Congressman Bishop helped protect 300 miles of coastline in his district, and restore the Long Island Sound.  Congressman Bishop’s work is vital to protect our jobs, businesses, and way of life.”

“I am so proud to receive the endorsement of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund, an organization whose commitment to preserving and protecting the environment is second-to-none,” said Congressman Bishop. “From our farmers to our fisherman, middle-class Long Islanders depend on our natural resources, not just for beauty, but for economic strength. I will always fight to protect Long Island's environment and for a clean, sustainable future.”

In Congress, Tim Bishop has cultivated many leadership roles which make him well positioned to continue his crucial work protecting our environment and promoting renewable energy.  As a member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, Congressman Bishop is ranking member of the Water Resources and Environment Subcommittee where he works to protect clean water and waterways, including the Long Island Sound. Bishop is also a member of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency caucus, and the Congressional Long Island Sound Caucus; he is a leader we can count on to keep our water and air clean, and promote our clean energy economy.

Congressman Bishop’s firm commitment to fighting climate change is visible in his voting record: he has opposed polluter-driven attacks on the Clean Air Act, voting against assaults on the EPA’s ability to apply commonsense safeguards to curb harmful carbon pollution and protect public health.

Congressman Bishop’s voting record earned him a 89% score on LCV’s 2013 National Environmental Scorecard and a lifetime score of 94%. The non-partisan Scorecard is the nationally accepted yardstick used to rate members of Congress on environmental and clean energy issues. Based on key environmental votes in the House and Senate, it is often used by the media to quickly describe a Member’s record. For more information, visit www.scorecard.lcv.org.
