Holtsville, NY - October 4, 2016 - In a continuous effort in the battle against childhood cancer, Donna and John Kontje will host their 10th annual Halloween Grand Stand on Monday, October 31 at 12 PM at 19 Clover Meadow Ct, Holtsville, NY 11742.

In 2005, John Kontje was diagnosed with testicular, abdominal and lung cancer at age 38. Upon diagnosis, he underwent traditional treatment. When the traditional treatment did not work, he decided to participate in a clinical trial at Memorial Sloan Kettering. The trial required hospitalization for 14 months. While in the hospital, John saw children battling cancer with bravery. He learned about Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) and the courageous battle of founder Alexandra “Alex” Scott. John felt the need to give back to help kids like the ones he saw while he was in treatment. Alex’s story inspired John and his family to do what they could to raise awareness.

His personal connection, as well as losing both parents to cancer, remains his inspiration for raising money for ALSF. The 10th Annual Halloween Grand Stand is carnival-themed and family-friendly. There will be live music, face painting, games, raffles, food and prizes. The event is free, but the family encourages donations. They hope to raise $6,000.

About Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation
Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004). In 2000, 4-year-old Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Since Alex held that first stand, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement, complete with thousands of supporters across the country carrying on her legacy of hope. To date, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a registered 501(c)3 charity, has raised more than $127 million toward fulfilling Alex’s dream of finding a cure, funding over 650 pediatric cancer research projects nationally.
