Written by Joe Randazzo  |  28. September 2013

On Friday morning a body was found in an apartment complex in Bay Shore. Residents of the Birches apartments on 91 South Clinton Avenue noticed the body wrapped in pink linen behind a dumpster and quickly called Suffolk County police. Law enforcement officials have identified the corpse as a female.

Police were called at around 9:15 a.m. when residents found the body outside their homes. They were not able to identify the sex at the scene until the she was brought to a medical examiner.

Residents of the complex and neighboring complexes were were horrified by the grisly discovery. “Teenage or grownup, still, somebody’s lost a loved one,” Sarah Woodard, a resident of a nearby apartment complex, told News 12.

Raymond Castro, who lives in the Birches, doesn’t think it’s safe to live there anymore because this isn’t the complex’s first incident of criminal activity. In the past apartments were vandalised and radios have been stolen from their cars. Castro has complained multiple times about having the property properly surveilled for situations such as this one and the complex’s management company, NAI Long Island, has refused to install cameras for.

“I told them to put cameras,” Castro told News 12. “They never put it. They said it was too expensive."

The Suffolk County police department’s investigation of the incident is still ongoing and an autopsy is determining the woman’s cause of death. Detectives are asking anyone with information to call the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-Tips. All calls are kept confidential.
