Man Arrested for Assaulting 91-Year-Old Man After Acting Violently at an Outpatient Rehab Facility

Devin Tanner, 38, of West Hempstead, charged with Assault and Criminal Mischief.

West Hempstead, NY - September 23, 2016 - The Fifth Squad reports an arrest for Assault which occurred on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at 10:40 a.m. in West Hempstead.

According to detectives, Fifth Precinct patrol officers received a call to Northwell Health Outpatient Rehab Facility located at 600 Hempstead Turnpike for a violent male who was banging his head against a wall.  On the way to the assignment a second call was received for an assault in progress on Euston Road South.  A responding officer along with a Nassau County Ambulance technician observed Devin Tanner, 38, of West Hempstead, walking northbound on Euston Road South.  Tanner was identified as the suspect from both incidents.  The victim of the assault, a 91 year old male, was located at his home.  Tanner had approached the victim and punched him in the face, causing injuries which were treated at scene.  Tanner also punched the victim’s front door causing in excess of $500 in damage.

Tanner is charged with Assault 2nd degree and Criminal Mischief 3rd degree.  He was taken to Nassau University Medical Center for evaluation and will be arraigned when practical.
