If you are one to favor munching on M&M’s at the movie theater or a general consumer of M&M’s (theater box size), beware of the latest voluntary recall especially if you or someone you know is allergic to peanuts.

Mars Chocolate North America, the makers of M&M’s announced its products contained in the 3.40 oz box with UPC#40000294764 may contain peanut butter even though the box does not list the ingredient on the outside label.

According to the recall notice, the problem was discovered when a consumer found M&M’s peanut chocolate products inside an M&M’s plain milk chocolate theater box.

The recalled products were distributed nationwide. Shipment and distribution to customers’ warehouses were made between May 8 and July 1, 2014 and the products were then redistributed to retailers.

The specific lot numbers (located on the right-hand side panel of the box with the best before date) under recall are identified here.

Consumers with the recalled product may return it to the store they purchased it at for a full refund. Questions and concerns may also be directed to (800) 627-7853 Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

People who are allergic to peanuts and consume the recalled product may run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction.

This is not the first time there has been a mismatch of label and product containing peanut butter. Back in June, Haagen-Daz ice cream also recalled its product when select Chocolate Chocolate Chip Ice Cream cartons contained peanut butter without proper label to the bottom of the carton.
