Man Killed After Struck in Head with Baseball

Yaphank, NY - September 21, 2014 - Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives are investigating an incident during which a man died after he was struck in the head with a baseball.
 
Fifth Precinct officers responded to Baseball Heaven, located at 350 County Road 101, after a youth baseball coach was struck in the head with a baseball during warm-ups prior to a game at approximately 5:30 p.m. last night. Upon arrival of officers and paramedics, bystanders were performing CPR on the man, Richard Becher, who was unconscious.
 
Becher, 50, of 15 Buckingham Drive, Holbrook, was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
