Manhattan Man Arrested for Stealing from Donation Boxes in Nassau Churches

Second Squad detectives report the arrest of a Manhattan man for removing cash from donations boxes which occurred in Plainview on Thursday, 09/18/14 at 2:08 P.M.

Plainview, NY - September 19th, 2014 - Second Squad detectives report the arrest of a Manhattan man for removing cash from  donations boxes which occurred in Plainview on Thursday, 09/18/14 at 2:08 P.M.

According to detectives, Wayne McKay, 57, of 9th Ave., entered St. Pius Church located at 1 Pius Ct., and removed cash from two donation boxes. When confronted by a witness, the defendant fled the scene on foot.  Second Precinct police officers located the defendant on Washington Ave. and placed him under arrest. Further investigation revealed that McKay had also removed cash from donation boxes beginning 09/02/14 through 09/8/14 at the following churches:

09/04/14 -  St. Mary’s Church, 110 Bryant Ave., Roslyn Harbor
09/05/14 -  St. Dominick’s Church, 93 Anstice St., Oyster Bay
09/06/14 -  St. Catherine of Sienna, 33 New Hyde Park Rd., Franklin Square
09/08/14 -  St. Dominick’s Church, 93 Anstice St., Oyster Bay

McKay is being charged with five counts of Petit Larceny, two counts of Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree and will be arraigned on Friday, 09/19/14 in First District Court, Hempstead.
