Middle Island, NY - September 19, 2014 - Under beautiful bright blue skies, teachers and administrators at West Middle Island Elementary School took the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge and nominated Charles E. Walters, Coram and Ridge Elementary Schools to take the challenge as well.

In a long line of green WMI shirts, teachers took turns dumping buckets of ice water on each other’s heads concluding with Principal Gretchen Schaentzler and Assistant Principal Elisabeth Finck. “Giving to others or “Service above Self” is such an important lesson to teach our students,” said Mrs. Schaentzler. “At West, we are always looking for different ways to share this lesson with our students. The ALS Ice Bucket challenge was a wonderful way for us to show the students how our teachers and staff give of ourselves for a great cause. Teachers and staff made donations while the students cheered us on.” To date, more than $300 has been raised from the challenge. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the ALS Association.
