West Babylon, NY - September 14, 2017 - Once again, Long Island McDonald’s will team with Nassau and Suffolk county fire centers and fire departments to emphasize the importance of home fire safety. On October 3rd at 11 a.m., participants will gather at the Nassau County Firefighters Museum on Charles Lindberg Boulevard in Garden City, where Ronald McDonald will present 250 Kidde Worry-Free10-year sealed lithium battery smoke alarms and 50 carbon monoxide (CO) alarms to the Nassau and Suffolk county fire marshals. The alarms are donated by Kidde, a leading manufacturer of residential fire safety products. Additionally, throughout the month of October, the 186 fire departments on Long Island will visit schools to educate students about fire safety and pass out a worksheet about EDITH (Exit Drills in the Home) and Hazard Hunt. Children who complete the worksheet will be rewarded with a certificate good for a free grilled chicken snack wrap, 6pc Chicken McNuggets, or cheeseburger and a small soft drink, apple juice or low fat chocolate milk* (with any purchase) from Long Island McDonald’s.

“Long Island McDonald’s is thrilled to once again be working with Kidde to highlight the importance of fire safety and we are so thankful for their generosity in donating 250 10-year sealed lithium battery smoke alarms and 50 CO alarms to help protect Long Island families,” says Luciana Montuoro, LI McDonald’s Marketing & PR Director.

“Kidde is proud to work with Long Island McDonald’s and local fire departments to help raise awareness about fire and carbon monoxide safety. We hope families will take the steps needed to help protect themselves by installing working smoke and CO alarms,”says Sharon Cooksey, Kidde Marketing Communications Manager.

“Fire safety is everyone's responsibility. It is important that everyone have a fire escape plan in place for your home and at work,” says Suffolk County Chief Fire Marshal Don Lynch.

During Fire Prevention Month, Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano and the Nassau County Fire Marshal’s Office urges everyone to make time for fire safety. “A moment spent now could make the difference in an emergency”.“Families should develop and practice a fire safety plan and fire survival strategy along with an exit plan and meeting place outside their home” says the County Executive.

“Be sure all family members know what to do in the event of a fire, or any emergency that may require you to exit your home quickly. Check your home for fire hazards, correcting them as you do. Install, inspect, and test smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors in your home. Be fire safe…be fire smart,”says Nassau County Fire Marshal Vincent McManus.

“Smoke alarms and Carbon Monoxide detectors should be an essential part of every family’s fire safety plans,” said County Executive Steve Bellone. “ I am pleased to support the collaborative effort between Suffolk and Nassau County Fire Departments, Long Island McDonald’s and Kidde which aims to ensure our residents are provided resources to support their fire safety plans with a particular focus on outreach to children to underscore the importance of fire safety.” says Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone.
