Crime Report: Man Arrested for Murder after Firing at Police; Couple Arrested in Connection with Burglary Spree

A man fired at police after allegedly murdering a woman in Bay Shore; The couple has allegedly been robbing houses in the Fifth Precinct since July.

Man Arrested for Murder after Firing at Police
Suffolk County Police say that a man fired at two responding officers on Saturday at the MacArthur Inn in Holbrook. Police knocked on the door of Stoker Olukotun Williams’ room, when Olukotun Williams opened the door and began firing.

Neither officer was hit, but they returned fire and Olukotun Williams, 24, was shot in the arm. The suspect fled to the parking lot and was caught and arrested a short distance away.

Police were responding to a body that was found in Bay Shore. The body of 24-year-old Shalece Cunningham was found by police. Cunningham had a gunshot wound to her head, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two friends of Cunningham were also found at the hotel, unharmed.

The suspect was treated at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue, and released into police custody.

Olukotun Williams is being charged with Murder 2nd Degree and Attempted Murder 1st Degree.

Couple Arrested in Connection with Burglary Spree
Suffolk County Police said that they have arrested a couple in connection with a string of burglaries that has taken place in the Fifth Precinct since July.

Stephanie Maly was arrested on September 5 while allegedly attempting to burglarize a home in East Patchogue. Officers were responding to a call of burglary in progress.

Police later found that Maly was responsible for several other burglaries that occurred in July in Bellport, Patchogue, East Patchogue and Medford. Maly would allegedly unlock the doors and windows in the homes, steal jewelry and cash, and then have her boyfriend, John King, pawn the items.

King was later arrested at the couples’ home in Patchogue. Maly, 20, is being charged with eight counts of Burglary in the 2nd Degree. 25-year-old King is being charged with four counts of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 5th Degree.
