Written by Tom Needham  |  07. September 2017

Stony Brook, NY - September 7, 2017 - Rockabilly and country music star, Wanda Jackson, will join Tom Needham this Thursday at 6 P.M. on WUSB’s The Sounds of Film. She will be discussing her new autobiography, Every Night is Saturday Night: A Country Girl’s Journey to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Wanda Jackson is often referred to as “The First Lady of Rock & Roll.” Through the years, she has had over 30 singles on the pop and country charts.  While still a teenager, Wanda Jackson had her first hit, “You Can’t Have My Love.” With that success, she hit the road and played with Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins.  She eventually toured with Elvis, and famously became his girlfriend.  While dating Elvis, he advised her to play rock music. She listened to Elvis, and the rest is history.

Wanda is well known for her hits “Let’s Have a Party,” “Right or Wrong,” and “In the Middle of a Heartache.” She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009. In recent years, she has been back in the spotlight working with Jack White and Joan Jett.  Her new autobiography’s introduction is written by Elvis Costello.
