Mastic Beach, NY - September 7, 2016 - Teddy Galasso, a William Floyd High School senior and starting fullback for the varsity football team, was just selected as a “Week 2 Nominee” for the USA Football Heart of a Giant Award, presented by the Hospital for Special Surgery and the New York Giants. He was chosen based on the recommendation of his coach, Paul Longo, and the questionnaire that Galasso submitted. Selected nominees must demonstrate and possess an unparalleled work ethic and passion for the game, as well as commitment, teamwork, the will to succeed both on and off the field, character and dedication.

“I read the criteria and I thought of Teddy,” said Coach Longo, who also named Galasso his captain for the season opener on Friday, September 9, at Connetquot. Longo recalled how last year he was going to send Teddy down to junior varsity and how he didn’t want to go. As a result of that conversation, Teddy worked even harder on strength training and other facets of his game to stay at the more competitive varsity level. On top of keeping up on his studies and football, Teddy also has a job to help out at home. After graduation, he plans on going to college and majoring in business management. He hopes to own his own business one day.

Galasso will now represent William Floyd in an online competition against nine other nominees in the Week 2 bracket. The top vote getter will advance to the finals and receive a $1,500 equipment grant for his team. The overall grand prize winner will receive an additional $3,500 equipment grant and participate in an on-field trophy presentation during halftime of the New York Giants game against the Detroit Lions on December 18. Voting begins at 5 pm on Thursday, September 8, and runs through Sunday, October 2, at 11:59 pm. You can vote once per day, per device, here.
