Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau officers rescued two swimmers in distress in the Great South Bay in Kismet this evening.

Kismet, NY - September 6, 2015 - Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau officers rescued two swimmers in distress in the Great South Bay in Kismet this evening.

Four people on board a 1996 21-foot Sea Ray unknowingly anchored their boat in a tidal current in the Great South Bay, ¼ mile north of the Fire Island Lighthouse at approximately 7 p.m. Robyn Ciano, her daughter  Jade-Ashley Stetler and Brian McDaniels jumped into the water to swim but were pulled away from the boat. Ciano’s mother called 911 from the boat.

Marine Bureau Police Officers Christopher DeFeo and Kevin Comiskey on patrol vessel Marine Juliet responded. The officers rescued Ciano and McDaniels. Stetler reached the boat prior to police arrival.

Ciano, 38, of Babylon, Stetler, 13, and McDaniels, 38, of Levittown, were treated by the West Islip Fire Department and refused further medical treatment.
