Hermine to Gradually Weaken South of Long Island as It Drifts Westward Toward the Mid-Altantic Coast Today

Peak wind gusts were recorded over Long Island as Hermine continues to move westward toward the Mid-Atlantic coast today. Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for LI.

Generally, 30-50 mph gusts were observed across Long Island.

As of this morning, there is still a Tropical Storm Warning in effect for coastal locations in the Northeast, including all waters around Long Island, according to the National Weather Service. As the day goes on, Long Island can expect weakened conditions from Hermine as it slowly drifts northwestward off the Mid-Atlantic Coast towards southern New England.

Under a Tropical Storm Warning effect, Long Islanders near the waters can expect winds of 39 to 73 mph. Peak wind gusts from Hermine were recorded through 8:20 a.m. this morning. The South Fork of Long Island recorded highest wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph, while 30-50 mph were observed across the rest of Long Island.
