Legislator Anker Encourages Residents to Take Action and Prepare

Written by Long Island News & PR  |  04. September 2014

Mount Sinai, NY - September 4, 2014 - Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker encourages residents to participate in FEMA’s new emergency preparedness campaign. In honor of National Preparedness Month, FEMA asks citizens to begin emergency preparation as early as possible. Weather related emergencies can occur with little notice, which is why year’s theme for National Preparedness Month is “Be Disaster Aware, Take Action to Prepare.”

Throughout the month of September, each week of the awareness campaign will focus on a different topic related to emergency preparedness. National Preparedness Month will conclude on September 30th  with a national day of action, known as “Nation Prepare-A-Thon Day”.  On this day communities are encouraged to take practical steps to increase their preparedness for a potential emergency.

“The most important thing we can do, in the event of an emergency, for ourselves and for our loved ones is to be prepared,” said Legislator Anker. “Weather events such as Superstorm Sandy remind us how we should develop an emergency plan.”
