Crab Meadow Beach in Northport is closed to bathing due to the finding of bacteria at levels that exceed New York State standards.

Update - September 1, 2015 - The beach closure for Crab Meadow Beach in the Town of Huntington has been lifted, as results of recent samples collected show the water quality to be within acceptable levels.

Additionally, the beach closure issued for Great Pond Beach at Peconic Dunes Camp remains in effect.

Northport, NY - August 31, 2015 - Crab Meadow Beach in Northport is closed to bathing due to the finding of bacteria at levels that exceed New York State standards.

According to Suffolk County Commissioner of Health Dr. James Tomarken, bathing in water contaminated with bacteria can result in gastrointestinal illness, as well as infections of the eyes, ears, nose, and throat.

Additionally, the beach closure issued for Great Pond Beach at Peconic Dunes Camp is also in effect.
