"Storm Watch" ...Storm watch in effect from late Sunday night through late Monday night... The National Weather Service in Upton has issued a storm watch... which is in effect from late Sunday night through late Monday night. * Winds and seas...northeast winds 40 to 45 kt with gusts up to 60 kt on ocean...35 to 40 kt with gusts to 50 kt on the nearshore waters. Seas 16 to 21 feet on the ocean...and 5 to 10 ft on Long Island Sound. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A storm watch is issued when the risk of storm force winds of 48 to 63 kt has significantly increased...but the specific timing and/or location is still uncertain. Woman Arrested for DWI with 2-Year-Old Child in Vehicle

The arrest occurred Eastbound on Sunrise Highway near the Exit 58 South Ramp on Sunday, August 31, 2014 at 12:40 a.m.

Shirley, NY - August 31, 2014 - Suffolk County Police have arrested a Mastic Beach woman for driving while intoxicated with a 2-year-old boy in her car early this morning.
 
Seventh Precinct officers were conducting a checkpoint on the ramp of eastbound Sunrise Highway at exit 58 south in Shirley when Julieann Klopfer was stopped at the checkpoint and evaluated. Klopfer was found to be intoxicated and her fiancé’s son was in the backseat of her vehicle, a 1998 Mercedes.
 
Klopfer, 33, of 79 Cypress Dr., was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger 15 Years Old or Younger (Leandra’s Law) and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Klopfer will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip today.
 
Seven other drivers were issued traffic summonses at the checkpoint.
