"Marine Fog Advisory, Storm Warning" ...Dense fog advisory in effect until 10 am EST Sunday... ...Storm Warning remains in effect from 1 am Monday to 1 am EST Tuesday... The National Weather Service in Upton has issued a dense fog advisory...which is in effect until 10 am EST Sunday. * Winds and seas...east winds 35 to 45 kt with gusts 50 to 55 kt. Seas 7 to 11 feet...and as high as 9 to 12 feet east of Orient Point. * Visibility...1 nm or less through early Sunday morning. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Storm Warning means sustained winds or frequent gusts of 48 to 63 kt are expected or occurring. Recreational boaters should remain in port...or take shelter until winds and waves subside. Commercial vessels should prepare for very strong winds and dangerous sea conditions...and consider remaining in port or taking shelter in port until winds and waves subside. A dense fog advisory means visibilities will frequently be reduced to less than one mile. MTA Provides Service Details for Labor Day Weekend

Extra Getaway Services on Friday, August 29th, Will Start the Weekend.

Manhattan, NY - August 27th, 2014 - MTA railroads will provide extra service on Friday, August 30, to help customers get a head start on the long holiday weekend. All MTA services will operate on reduced schedules on Labor Day. Details are below.

Long Island Rail Road & Metro-North Railroad
The LIRR and Metro-North will provide 27 additional early-afternoon trains from Manhattan on Friday, August 30, for customers planning an early getaway for the Labor Day Weekend. For more information, please see the attached press releases from the LIRR and Metro-North. On Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 2, Metro-North will operate on a Sunday schedule, and the LIRR will operate on a Sunday/holiday schedule. 

New York City Subways and Buses
MTA New York City Transit subways and buses and MTA Bus Company buses will operate on a Sunday schedule on Labor Day, Monday, September 1.  

Because of the J’Ouvert Parade on Monday, September 1, from 2 a.m. to 8 p.m. in Brooklyn, the Church Av 2 Station will be closed and bypassed from 11 p.m. Sunday, August 31, to 4 a.m. Monday, September 1. Buses in the area will be rerouted.  

Because of the West Indian-American Day Parade on Monday, September 1, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. along Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn, certain subway entrances in the parade area may be affected and buses in the area will be rerouted.  The Eastern Pakwy- Brooklyn Museum 2, 3, 4 Station will be closed and bypassed from 12 noon to 7 p.m. Monday, September 1. At Crown Hts-Utica Ave 2, 4 Station, certain staircases will be designated entrance/exit only. 4 Trains will make local stops in Brooklyn.  

Staten Island Railway
Staten Island Railway (SIR) customers looking to get a head start on their three-day weekend will be able to catch earlier afternoon express train service on Friday, August 29, with Staten Island Railway’s Early Departure Getaway schedule. This schedule means extra SIR trains will be added earlier in the afternoon beginning at 2:30 p.m. from the St. George Ferry Terminal. There will be one express train and one local train awaiting every boat until 7:50 p.m. SIR will operate on a Sunday Schedule on Labor Day, Monday September 1. 

The Early Departure Getaway service plan on SIR is also available on the Friday leading into the President’s Day and Memorial Day weekends, the day before Independence Day, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, and the day before the Christmas and New Year’s.

MTA Bridges and Tunnels
MTA Bridges and Tunnels will suspend all routine construction and maintenance work at its seven bridges and two tunnels beginning 1 p.m. Friday, August 29, through the end of the morning rush on Tuesday, Sept. 2, to help smooth travel for those hitting the road for the Labor Day weekend. Work will continue at the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge where a full-time lane closure is in effect.
