Motorcyclist Seriously Injured in Crash with Police Officer

Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash involving a police vehicle that seriously injured a motorcyclist in Dix Hills today.

The operator of the motorcycle was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital Suffolk County Police helicopter with a serious head injury.

Dix Hills, NY - August 24, 2016 - Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash involving a police vehicle that seriously injured a motorcyclist in Dix Hills today.

A marked Suffolk County Police Motor Carrier Safety vehicle was struck in the rear by a motorcycle, on the westbound Long Island Expressway, approximately 500 feet east of Exit 51, at approximately 1:25 p.m. The operator of the police vehicle was attempting to make a U-turn at an area designated for emergency vehicles.

The operator of the motorcycle was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital Suffolk County Police helicopter with a serious head injury. The officer was transported to Huntington Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The victim’s names are being withheld until notification of family members.
