Babylon, NY - August 24, 2014 - Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau officers, along with United States Coast Guard officials, rescued three people aboard a boat that began taking on water in the Atlantic Ocean in Babylon this morning.

The operator of the boat, Michael Scaringi, his son and a friend were aboard a 26-foot boat, named Something Fishy, when the boat experienced a mechanical problem and began to take on water, approximately one mile south of Robert Moses State Park in Babylon at approximately 7:30 a.m. Scaringi, of Oakdale, called 911 and the Coast Guard. Marine Bureau Police Officers Raymond Cairo and Michael Alfieri on patrol vessel, Marine X-Ray and Coast Guard officials on a vessel responded to the boat.

Prior to the arrival of rescuers, Scaringi’s son, 12, was rescued by two Good Samaritans who were on a 26-foot boat. Upon arrival, Coast Guard officials boarded the sinking vessel with a de-watering pump and began salvage operations, while Marine Bureau officers transferred the 12-year-old to Marine X-Ray.

Scaringi and his friend stayed on Scaringi’s boat and Marine X-Ray and the US Coast Guard escorted the vessel from the ocean through Fire Island Inlet to Captree Boat Basin in Babylon.
