Leandra's Law Arrest in Hempstead

Hempstead, NY - August 24, 2014 - The Nassau County Police report the arrest of a Hempstead woman for Driving While Intoxicated (Leandra’s Law) on Sunday, August 24, 2014 at 4:15 A.M. in Hempstead.
 
According to officers, the defendant Araceli Mondragon-Vargas, 27 of 11 St. Pauls Road was westbound on Fulton Avenue in a Ford Windstar when she was observed failing to maintain a single lane by Highway Patrol Officers.  The officers conducted a traffic stop at which time they determined Mondragon-Vargas was intoxicated and placed her under arrest.  Also in the vehicle at the time of arrest were the defendant’s boyfriend and their 2 year old daughter.  The child was removed from scene by the boyfriend.
 
Mondragon-Vargas is charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (Leandra’s Law), Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Driving While Intoxicated (BAC + .08), Driving While Intoxicated, Failing to Stay in Single Lane and Unlicensed Operator.  She will be arraigned on Monday, August 25, 2014 at First District Court in Hempstead.
