Long Island, NY - August 21, 2015 - Tennis fever is about to grip New York and MTA Long Island Rail Road will be providing extra train service to Mets-Willets Point Station on the Port Washington Branch to get fans to the U.S. Open Tennis Tournament beginning with the first pre-tournament event on Tuesday, August 25 right through the championship showdowns that wrap up on Sunday, September 13.

Whether you are heading to the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park from Long Island or from New York City, there is no faster or more convenient way to see the world’s best players. The LIRR which will stop at Mets- Willets Point every 30 minutes for the Qualifying Rounds (August 25 - 28), Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day (Saturday, August 29) and for the U.S. Open Tennis Tournament (August 30 - September 13). Eastbound from Penn Station, the trip to Mets-Willets Point is just 19 minutes. Westbound on the Port Washington Branch, Mets-Willets Point Station is 17 minutes from Great Neck and 27 minutes from Port Washington.

Customers traveling to the U.S. Open from branches other than Port Washington can take the LIRR to Woodside, then transfer to a Port Washington train. Customers transferring at Woodside should tell the conductor about their travel plans. Customers must hold onto their LIRR tickets and have them ready for presentation/collection upon exiting the train at Mets-Willets Point Station.

Customers are advised to buy tickets in advance and if attending weekend matches and traveling to Mets-Willets Point from Penn or stations in Queens purchase a CityTicket a same-day, one-way fare of $4.25 for a trip that otherwise carries a one-way charge of $6.
